Kanzashi Hair Pin Kanzashi are hair ornaments used in traditional Japanese hairstyles. They came into wide use during the Edo Period (1603-1868) when nihongami hair style (as shown in the picture above) became popular. Although kanzashi are mainly used when wearing kimono (Japanese traditional clothes), they are gaining popularity again these days among young Japanese women who want to add a classic Japanese touch to their everyday western clothes. Finely crafted Kanzashi Hair Pin We are delighted to offer our customers the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate Japanese craftsmanship through a Japanese traditional accessory, kanzashi. Mr. Kasugai, a kanzashi artisan who has practiced his craft for over 45 years, will handcraft for you a one of a kind accessory sure to please. Currently we are offering two different types of kanzashi (made of thin brass or silver plate) with one kanji character on them. We are happy, however, to hear your requests for items such as pendants, keychains, cell phone straps, name plates and wall hangings. Please feel free to provide us with your design via e-mail; but keep in mind that only flat designs can be accomodated due to the thinness of the plates. We look forward to hearing your requests and suggestions! KANZASHI-1 and KANZASHI-2 come in a kiribako wooden box
