OSHIE
Oshie, literally meaning “Pressed Picture,” is a traditional form of Japanese
handicraft since the Edo period. It is made by using Japanese fabric and
paper padded with cotton inside to give it 3D appearance. Oshie is commonly
featured as main decoration on various handicrafts, or ,just like the items
below, simply mounted directly on Shikishi. |

The items above (WADO9-A,B,C,D) are elaborately crafted beautiful paper
dolls placed on Shikishi. It's hard to see but girls in the pictures are
not really flat. It is neither a picture nor a print, but more like a collage.
Shikishi.... Shikishi are squares of thick paper, of a set size and either
plain white or decorated with faint patters or gold and silver foil speckles,
that are used for waka or haiku poem with a brush, or for Japanese -style
paintings. These days shikishi are used more commonly to have famous person's
autograph on, or have friends or colleagues write on for special
occasions |
